Nadim came to this country in the mid-fifties to study theatre and education at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in Sidcup Kent, where he qualified as a Drama Teacher. Soon after that he spent ten years with the BBC Overseas Service working as an actor, scriptwriter and producer.

In his capacity as an actor he has appeared on the stage of the Royal National Theatre, as well as with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal Court and the Young Vic.

He has written and produced several plays, amongst them ‘Love in Andalucia’, ‘Ousama’, adapted from the memoirs of Ousama Ibn al Munqith, a Moslem nobleman who fought the Crusaders and knew them well; ‘Prophet in Exile’, a dramatic study of the life and times of Kahlil Gibran, and his current one-man show about Mohammad al Fayed, ‘All I Want Is A British Passport’.

He has three daughters, the eldest, Dina, teaches dance, while the other two, Nadia and Julia Sawalha, are both well-known faces on television - Nadia as a presenter of shows such as ‘City Hospital’ and ‘Living in the Sun’ and Julia as an actress, best known for her role as Saffy in ‘Absolutely Fabulous’.
